Over the years a number of us have been collecting an assortment of CDs, DVDs and even LPs. It can become difficult to conveniently store all of them in one place without having a tonne of shelf space. A piece of media storage furniture could be just the solution to your problem. They are currently available for a variety of uses and in a wide range of sizes to effectively store and organize all of your media items without taking up a bunch of space in the process.

Perhaps you have quickly browsed online or paid a visit to local furniture stores; if you have then I’m sure you would agree that there are a lot of options.

Don’t be overwhelmed by all the options

It can become difficult to make a choice due to the large volume of different makes and models. Since this can be difficult it can be useful to have someone else tell you what they think is the best option. Obviously you will make the final decision but this can definitely be helpful.

Attributed to jimi_cook

A corner media cabinet can be an excellent way to store CDs or DVDs without sticking out into your living area and taking up space. Available in plastic, wood, and metal, this form of DVD storage cabinet is our top recommendation. Some models may come complete with a glass doors or shelving. But if you have a specific color in mind, it is very likely that you will be able to find that as well.

As it relates to buying your media storage furniture piece, ensure that you know the amount of space that you are working with. If your space is limited, choose a storage piece that is taller. If you have small children, ensure that you buy media storage furniture that is durable and will not fall down on an inquisitive toddler.

If your DVD storage cabinet is primarily being used for DVDs, check the specifications of the manufacturers as to the amount of DVDs it typically accommodates. A number of units can accommodate in excess of 200 DVDs.

Our recommendation

Amazon.com has a unit from Black Media Storage Furniture which had the capacity to accommodate 405 DVDs and is available in dark brown, black and a variety of wood colors. The price tag is $159 does not seem like a lot to ask for the amount of storage space that it can provide.

Before you buy a wall mounted TV stand, read below.

Attributed to ddamico

As televisions evolve, so do the stands that hold them. Where once a TV sat on the ground, there is now an increasing trend of people hanging their TV’s on the wall like pictures. The wall bracket is the most popular way to do this; it holds the TV in the air and enhances the overall viewing experience as well as takes the TV out of your way. Depending on the size of your TV, these brackets can get expensive. One thing you can do is go with a substitute.

Consider a modern TV stand

A substitute to the wall mount is the modern TV stand. While this will not display your TV on the wall like a picture frame, it will allow you to take the TV up off of the ground and enhance the viewing experience in the process. The style of many of these stands, whether sleek clear or black grass can also add quite a bit to the décor of your home.

Currently, there are a huge assortment of modern TV stands that are available for nearly any size or shape of television, whether plasma of LCD. Even if your budget is limited you have no need to worry; there are flat screen TV stands available that are sturdy, stylish, and still affordable.

If cost is a serious issue and you do not want the trouble of mounting your TV to something then you might also consider wall units or cabinets. While these were popular with TV’s of old, they are still selling quite strong with the new flat panel televisions. An added benefit is that they can also offer you some extra storage space that you would not otherwise have.

A corner TV stands for a flat screens is also an excellent solution for housing your new television (This would fall into the category of modern TV stands). Modern TV stands are designed to accommodate these kinds of televisions; they have functionality and style. The flat screen TV stand will conceal all of the cords without taking up an excessive amount of space. Nowadays, you can get one in a variety of glass, wood finishes and even metals for a modern and stylish décor. They are also obtainable in the older wooden designs if that better fits the style of your home.

And if you were worried…

Something else you should know is that most of these flat screen TV stands are equipped with fasteners; this ensures that your flat panel television stays safe and cannot tip over even if there are children running around.

Important: Don’t buy a TV wall mount until you read this

Because you don’t want to deal with this…

Attributed to kissyface

When you can have this…

Attributed to DeclanTM

Acquiring a new television can a thrilling experience but it can also be a large investment. One thing you can do to help protect your TV is to mount it to the wall. With the recent proliferation of flat and plasma screens, this has never been more popular than it is now. Mounting it to the wall will ensure that it stays safe and is out of the way of damage. Another big benefit of mounting your television is that it will now be visible from any angle in the living room.

You are going to need a TV wall mount if you are interested in doing this. There are 3 types of TV wall mounts and the one that works for you is mostly going to depend of your personal preferences.

Do you know what the 3 major types of TV wall mount brackets are?

Low profile or fixed mounting brackets

Tilting mounting brackets

Swivel or full motion TV mounting brackets

The low profile model is going to be at the lower end of the price range while the full motion model will be at the higher end.

Attributed to grilled cheese

Low Profile Or Fixed TV Wall Mount Bracket

The low profile wall mount bracket is typically both the cheapest and easiest to install. If you visualize a painting on the wall which is never moved from its position, this is exactly what you are going to get with this wall mount. But this is exactly the biggest weakness of this method; it cannot be moved. SO if you cannot see the television from a chair or a couch in the room then your only real option becomes moving the furniture itself.

Tilting TV Wall Mount Bracket

These wall mounts are more flexible than their fixed counterparts but still have a price tag that is lower than the full motion wall brackets; this makes it a good middle of the road option. These brackets are no more difficult to mount than the fixed bracket but are able to tilt up and down. This can be of benefit if you ever have to do something with the wires up behind the unit or if the furniture in your living room is positioned close to the wall where the television is mounted. However this specific type does not enable horizontal tilt or swivel.

Swivel Or Full Motion TV Wall Mount Bracket

As the name suggests, it can be tilted down, up, right, left and even outwards. Regrettably though, this extra level of motion causes the device to be more costly than the two types that were previously mentioned. Additionally, it is more complicated to some extent when it comes to installation. This is because there is an additional arm which assists in in the added mobility. You will likely need two people to install this unit. You can also check with the retail sotre you purchased it from as many will offer free or low-cost installation. As soon as it is installed, you will immediately see the distinction in flexibility. The ability to rotate and move around on the arm can be of big benefit.

How to Choose?

You will likely purchase a new wall mount when you get your next TV. While the TV may seem like the most important part of this, don’t choose a mount haphazardly. Consider where you want to put your TV and what your budget is the project overall; a mount that is not suitable can seriously hamper your ability to enjoy the expensive new TV.
